TUCSON, Savannah Guthrie’s mother Nancy remains missing consider new updates, with authorities saying she is without the daily medication she needs to survive as investigators continue searching for answers in Tucson, Arizona.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, the mother of NBC’s Today anchor Savannah Guthrie, has been unaccounted for for more than 36 hours after she was last seen late Saturday night.
Today show co-host Jenna Bush Hager shared the concerning update on Monday, saying, “She takes daily medication and she needs them for survival. She’s without her medication. We are thinking of our dearest Savannah and her whole family right now in our prayers.”
Officials have indicated that Nancy does not suffer from dementia or cognitive decline. She was last seen around 9:45 p.m. Saturday in the Catalina Foothills area of Tucson, where she lives.
Family members have said she has some physical ailments but no mental impairment.
The disappearance has drawn heightened concern after reports stated that homicide detectives are involved following what was described as “concerning evidence” found at her home. While no details about the evidence have been released, authorities have not ruled out the possibility of foul play.
Savannah Guthrie was absent from work Monday and issued a statement through Today, saying, “I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers, and messages of support. Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom.”
She added that the family appreciates law enforcement efforts and urged anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Office at 520-351-4900.
Search efforts have expanded, with Customs and Border Protection joining sheriff’s deputies due to the home’s proximity to the U.S.-Mexico border. Drones and a sheriff’s plane have also been deployed.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said the case is still being treated as a search and rescue operation, though investigators have not been able to rule out foul play.
Guthrie has spoken publicly about her close relationship with her mother, who has appeared with her on television in past years.
