The structure involved is a multi-level parking garage that was still being built at the time of the collapse.

Emergency responders arrived quickly and were able to locate at least one person trapped beneath the debris.

The individual was rescued and transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead shortly after 3:00 p.m., according to officials.

Authorities have stated that there is a possibility more workers could still be trapped inside the collapsed section, although the exact number of individuals involved has not yet been confirmed as rescue operations remain ongoing.

Initial reports suggest that the collapse may have started in a stairwell area that was under construction, but officials have not confirmed the exact cause at this time.

Multiple agencies are involved in the response, including the Philadelphia Fire Department, along with crews from Philadelphia Gas Works, the Philadelphia Water Department, and SEPTA, all assisting to manage risks and support rescue efforts.

Due to the seriousness of the situation, authorities have closed several roads in the area.

Grays Ferry Avenue has been shut down between 27th and 34th streets, causing major traffic disruptions nearby.

The situation remains active, with emergency teams continuing search operations and working to stabilize the site.

More updates are expected as officials gather additional information.
