LAKEWOOD RANCH FLORIDA, Monika Karina Rubacha, 44, and her two children — a 14-year-old son and 11-year-old daughter, Emma — were found deceased inside their Lakewood Ranch home earlier this week, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the residence on Pavia Way after receiving a welfare check request. Authorities said the call was made by Monika’s husband, Richard James, who was overseas at the time and had been unable to contact his family.
The sheriff’s office is investigating the incident as an apparent murder-suicide. Officials have not released additional details regarding the circumstances but confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Neighbors said the family moved to the Lakewood Ranch area about three years ago. Those who knew them described Monika as a devoted mother and said the children were kind and well-mannered.
Emma, 11, was remembered as a bright and gentle child. Her 14-year-old brother was described as a teenager with many goals and aspirations ahead of him.
