Police Investigating Deadly Shooting That Claimed Life of 23-Year-Old in Birmingham’s Kingston Area

BIRMINGHAM ALABAMA, A 23-year-old man who was critically injured in a shooting at a Birmingham public housing community has died from his injuries, authorities confirmed.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Cornelius Lee Evans, 23.
According to officials, officers with the Birmingham Police Department and crews from Birmingham Fire and Rescue were dispatched at approximately 8:50 p.m. Thursday after receiving reports of a person shot in the 4600 block of Roscoe Avenue.
The location is within the Rev. Dr. Morrell Todd Homes, a public housing complex located in Birmingham’s Kingston community.
When emergency responders arrived, they found Evans suffering from multiple gunshot wounds after witnesses reported hearing a series of gunshots in the area.
First responders provided emergency medical assistance before transporting him to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Despite lifesaving efforts by medical personnel, Evans later died from his injuries, according to the coroner’s office.
Investigators have not released information about a possible suspect or motive, and the circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation.
