Deputy Fatally Shot in Tulare County Eviction Incident, Suspect David Morales Still on the Run
PORTERVILLE CALIF, A Tulare County Sheriff’s Office deputy has died after being shot while serving an eviction notice Thursday morning, prompting an active manhunt and increased safety measures across the community.
According to Sheriff Mike Boudreaux, the incident occurred at approximately 10:20 a.m. in the 1700 block of West Brian Avenue, near the intersection of Newcomb Street and Grand Avenue. Deputies had arrived at the residence to serve an eviction notice when gunfire broke out.
During the encounter, a deputy was struck by gunfire.
Emergency personnel transported the injured officer to a nearby hospital, where the deputy later died from the injuries.
Authorities have identified the suspect as David Morales, who remains at large.
Officials said the suspect continued firing during the incident, escalating the situation and leading to a significant law enforcement response.
As a precaution, residents in the surrounding area were advised to shelter in place, and several nearby roads were temporarily closed.
