Air Canada Flight AC8646 Crash Video Shows Collision with Fire Truck at LaGuardia

AIR CANADA FLIGHT AC8646, newly surfaced video captures the moment the aircraft collided with a Port Authority fire truck on a runway at LaGuardia Airport, resulting in a catastrophic incident that left both pilots dead and dozens of others injured.
According to officials, the crash involved a Bombardier CRJ-900 regional jet operated by Jazz Aviation on behalf of Air Canada, which had just arrived from Montreal carrying 72 passengers and four crew members when it struck the emergency vehicle on the runway.
Preliminary reports indicate that the impact caused severe structural damage to the forward section of the aircraft, shearing off the nose and killing both the captain and first officer instantly, while additional details from the scene suggest that one of the flight attendants was ejected from the aircraft during the crash sequence.
Multiple sources familiar with the response stated that the forward flight attendant, typically positioned near the front of the CRJ-900, was found outside the aircraft while still secured in her jumpseat, indicating that the force of the collision caused a significant breach of the fuselage, while the second flight attendant, positioned at the rear, is believed to have remained onboard and assisted passengers immediately after the incident.
Air traffic control audio revealed the chaotic moments leading up to the collision, with controllers urgently attempting to stop the fire truck and issuing repeated commands as both the aircraft and the vehicle entered the same active runway, after the truck had reportedly been cleared to cross in response to a separate in-flight emergency, raising concerns about coordination and situational awareness.
Emergency crews responded within minutes, carrying out triage operations for passengers and crew, with dozens evaluated for injuries and several individuals transported to nearby hospitals, while injuries were also reported among personnel aboard the fire truck and authorities have yet to release a complete update on all those affected.
Following the incident, the Federal Aviation Administration implemented a ground stop at the airport, temporarily halting operations while emergency teams secured the area, and the National Transportation Safety Board launched a full investigation to determine the exact sequence of events behind the fatal collision.
In a statement, leadership at Jazz Aviation expressed condolences to the families of the deceased pilots and confirmed full cooperation with investigators, as the tragedy prompted renewed scrutiny of runway safety protocols, particularly in relation to emergency vehicle coordination and air traffic control procedures during high-pressure situations.
The investigation remains ongoing as federal authorities continue analyzing evidence, including flight data, cockpit voice recordings, and air traffic communications, with the aim of identifying contributing factors and preventing similar incidents in the future.
