One Injured, Several Arrested After Shooting Incident in Mottingham Village

MOTTINGHAM, A large police operation took place in Mottingham Village on Monday evening following reports of a serious incident that resulted in several arrests by armed officers.
Witnesses said some of the first images from the scene showed police officers with weapons drawn as they carried out arrests. According to local accounts, two police vehicles stopped a car on Mottingham Road, after which several loud “popping” sounds were heard. Shortly afterward, multiple individuals were seen lying on the ground while being detained.
“One witness said four or five people were on the ground and handcuffed,” a local resident reported.
Armed officers from the Metropolitan Police quickly secured the area, and Mottingham Road was closed near the Lidl supermarket, leading to significant traffic disruption. Crews from the London Ambulance Service were also called to the scene and were seen assisting alongside police.
Authorities have not confirmed whether the sounds reported by witnesses were gunshots, nor have they released details about any injuries. The Metropolitan Police described the situation as an active incident, with a substantial police presence remaining in the area as inquiries continue.
Residents and motorists have been advised to avoid Mottingham Road while closures remain in effect. Police said further information will be shared as the investigation progresses and when it is appropriate to do so.
