PAWTUCKET R.I., A youth hockey game in Pawtucket turned tragic Monday afternoon when gunfire erupted inside an indoor ice rink, leaving a young girl dead and at least four others injured, according to city officials.
The incident took place during a high school co-op hockey matchup at the Dennis M. Lynch Arena on Andrew D. Ferland Way. Authorities confirmed that multiple individuals were struck by gunfire while the game was underway, causing panic inside the facility as players, coaches, and spectators moved quickly to seek safety.
The Mayor’s Office confirmed that a young girl died as a result of the shooting. Four additional victims were transported to local hospitals for medical treatment. Their conditions have not been publicly disclosed. Officials have not released the identities of the victims pending notification of family members.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that the suspected shooter is deceased.
Authorities stated they are not searching for any additional suspects.

Video from the scene showed individuals leaving the arena in fear as emergency sirens sounded throughout the area.
An employee at a nearby Walgreens on Andrew D. Ferland Way reported that several people entered the store in a state of panic, saying that shots had been fired inside the rink.
Pharmacy staff were instructed to close the store and evacuate, while some individuals sheltered inside as emergency services were contacted and law enforcement responded.
Police secured the arena and surrounding area as part of a large-scale response. Authorities emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
