Geneva Train Accident Claims Life of North Central College Student

GENEVA ILLINOIS, the North Central College community is mourning the death of Henry Kellen Blackmore, an 18-year-old student who died Sunday night after being struck by a train in Geneva.
According to Geneva Police, firefighters and emergency responders were dispatched around 9:51 p.m. near the Western Avenue grade crossing. Authorities said a freight train conductor discovered Blackmore near the Union Pacific–West railway tracks east of Western Avenue. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police stated that foul play is not suspected and that the incident remains under investigation.
Henry Blackmore was a student at North Central College in Naperville and a member of the college’s volleyball team. College officials described him as an intelligent, kind, and compassionate individual who made a positive impact on those around him. Teammates remembered him for his dedication, humility, and encouragement both on and off the court.
Blackmore was a son, brother, friend, and classmate who was deeply loved by his family and widely admired within the campus community. Friends said he was known for his gentle spirit, strong work ethic, and ability to make others feel valued and supported.
As the investigation continued, Metra Union Pacific–West Line services experienced disruptions on Monday morning.
North Central College extended condolences to Blackmore’s family and loved ones and announced that counseling and support services are being made available to students, faculty, and staff. The college said vigils and moments of remembrance are expected in the coming days as the community comes together to honor his life and legacy.
Henry Blackmore is being remembered for the positive influence he had on others and the lasting impact he left on those who knew him.
