Tumbler Ridge School Shooting Suspect Identified by Police

TUMBLER RIDGE, authorities in British Columbia continue to investigate a mass shooting that left at least 10 people dead, including multiple victims at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School and two individuals at a separate residence believed to be connected to the case.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police have not formally released the suspect’s identity. However, a close family member identified the alleged shooter as 17-year-old Jesse Strang, a student at the school. Law enforcement officials have not publicly confirmed that information and have urged the public to rely only on verified details as the investigation remains ongoing.
According to the RCMP, gunfire was first reported at approximately 1:20 p.m. at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School. Officers responding to the scene found six victims deceased inside the building. A seventh victim later died while being transported to a hospital.
Two additional victims were airlifted to regional medical facilities with serious or life-threatening injuries, and about 25 others were treated for injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.
During the course of the investigation, officers identified what they described as a secondary location connected to the incident. At that residence, police discovered two more victims who were pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said the suspected gunman is also deceased, reportedly from what investigators believe to be a self-inflicted injury.
In a statement, the RCMP said officers are continuing to search additional homes and properties to determine whether anyone else may be injured or linked to the events.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed sorrow following the tragedy, saying he was devastated by the shooting and offering condolences to those affected. He also acknowledged the efforts of first responders who responded to the scene.
Tumbler Ridge, a community of approximately 2,400 residents in northeastern British Columbia, is now confronting the aftermath of one of the deadliest incidents in its history. Crisis support services and emergency personnel have been mobilized to assist victims, families, and community members.
Authorities have not established a motive and have cautioned against spreading unverified claims or speculation regarding the suspect’s background or reasons for the attack.
The investigation remains active as law enforcement works to confirm details, reconstruct the timeline of events, and determine what led to the violence. Officials are asking anyone with relevant information to contact authorities and to respect the privacy of the victims’ families during this time.
