Community Mourns the Death of 19-Year-Old Camila Mendoza Olmos

Texas authorities confirmed that a 19-year-old San Antonio woman who was reported missing on Christmas Eve has died, following the conclusion of the medical examiner’s investigation.

Camila Mendoza Olmos was last seen alive at approximately 7 a.m. on December 24, walking a few blocks from her home, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office. Her disappearance prompted several days of searching by authorities, family members, and the community.

On Tuesday, Olmos’ body was discovered in a field a few hundred yards from her residence. Investigators said a firearm was located nearby. The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office formally identified the remains as Olmos on Wednesday.

The medical examiner determined that the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head and ruled the manner of death a suicide. Authorities stated that there were no signs of foul play, and investigators noted that evidence suggests her body had been at the location for several days prior to being found.

The sheriff’s office previously said Olmos had a documented history of depression and suicidal ideation. Officials emphasized that the findings were consistent with the medical examiner’s conclusions.

Following the identification, members of Olmos’ family shared a message on social media expressing gratitude for the widespread support they received during the search.

“In the name of the Olmos family, we want to give a humble and heartfelt thank you to all the news reporters, churches, friends, families, and communities for your support and prayers,” wrote Nancy Olmos. “Our beloved Camila Mendoza Olmos is now with the Good Lord.”

The family also requested privacy as they grieve and asked for continued prayers for Camila’s mother, Rosario, and her brother, Carlos.

Authorities said the case is considered closed, pending standard administrative review.
