17-year-old Gabriella Arellano found shot to death in East Side alley

 CHICAGO, IL – Authorities are investigating the fatal shooting of a teenage girl found dead in an alley on the city’s East Side Sunday morning.

The victim has been identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office as 17-year-old Gabriella “Gabby” Arellano.

Police say she was discovered around 10:18 a.m. on October 26, 2025, in the 11000 block of South Mackinaw Avenue, suffering from two gunshot wounds to the head.

Officers from the Chicago Police Department’s 4th District responded to a call reporting an unconscious female lying in the alley.

Upon arrival, they located Arellano unresponsive, and she was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Preliminary information indicates that detectives are reviewing surveillance footage which reportedly shows Gabriella walking with two unidentified males shortly before gunfire was heard.

Investigators noted that no 911 calls were received at the time regarding gunshots in the area.

The neighborhood was previously monitored by ShotSpotter gunfire detection technology, but the city’s contract with the program was recently discontinued.

At this time, no suspects are in custody, and the Area Two Bureau of Detectives is leading the homicide investigation.
