Stone Mill Creek Incident: Husband Kills Wife in Murder-Suicide Case

WEWAHITCHKA FLORIDA, Authorities are investigating a suspected murder-suicide involving a husband and wife at a residence in the Stone Mill Creek area of Gulf County.
According to the Gulf County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Monday afternoon to a home on Stone Mill Creek Road in Wewahitchka after receiving a welfare check request. Upon entering the residence, they discovered a couple deceased inside.
Officials later identified the individuals as Lorelei Strickland and her husband, Jarrott Strickland. Reports indicate that both were found in a bedroom of the home.
Investigators believe that Jarrott Strickland fatally shot his wife before turning the weapon on himself in what is being treated as a murder-suicide.
Authorities have not released the ages of the couple or how long they had lived in the Stone Mill Creek community. Officials also confirmed that no other injuries were reported and there were no signs of forced entry into the residence. They added that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The Medical Examiner’s Office is working alongside sheriff’s investigators to establish a timeline of events and conduct autopsies.
The sheriff’s office stated that the investigation remains active as detectives continue processing the scene and speaking with neighbors and family members to understand the circumstances leading up to the incident.
Just days before the tragedy, Lorelei Elizabeth Strickland shared a message on social media on April 3, expressing appreciation for her job and those around her.
The news has left community members shocked, with those who knew the couple expressing sadness and disbelief over the incident.
