Westport Shooting Leaves 15-Year-Old Girl Injured; Local Man Faces Gun and Drug Charges

WESTPORT MASSACHUSETTS, A local man is facing multiple firearm and drug charges following a shooting that injured a 15-year-old girl, police said.
According to Lt. Bryan McCarthy, the Westport Police Department received a 911 call around 7:57 a.m. Saturday reporting that a female had been shot at a residence on Eddy Drive.
Responding officers located a 15-year-old girl suffering from a gunshot wound to her hand. She was transported to a Rhode Island hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
Police identified 19-year-old Vijay Hak as being involved in the incident. Officers located a shotgun in the first-floor kitchen area of the home and rendered it safe. Hak complied with police commands and was detained without incident.
Detectives later placed Hak under arrest and obtained a search warrant for the residence. During the search, investigators reported finding a quantity of psilocybin mushrooms and alprazolam (Xanax). A second warrant was obtained for narcotics-related evidence.
Upon continuing the search, detectives said they located additional narcotics and contraband, including a Polymer 80 firearm commonly referred to as a “ghost gun.”
According to court records, Hak is scheduled to be arraigned in Fall River District Court on charges including assault and battery by discharging a firearm, multiple firearm-related offenses, receiving stolen property, and several counts of possession with intent to distribute controlled substances.
The investigation remains ongoing.
