Westport Man Honored with Scholarship After Fatal Tiverton Motorcycle Crash

TIVERTON RHODE ISLAND, A Westport man who died in a motorcycle crash is being remembered through a scholarship created in his honor.
According to Tiverton Police, on Sunday, June 2, 2024, just after 5:00 p.m., officers from the Tiverton Police Department responded to Route 24 northbound following reports of a motorcycle crash.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a heavily damaged 2003 gray Harley-Davidson motorcycle with debris scattered across the roadway. A preliminary investigation determined that 27-year-old Michael Lees of Westport was traveling northbound on Route 24 near Exit 4 in the low-speed lane when the motorcycle suddenly left the lane of travel. Authorities said Lees appeared to lose control of the motorcycle while changing lanes and suffered a serious head injury.
Lees was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Friends, family members, and community members described Lees as a hardworking and generous person who was widely respected by those who knew him. He was also the owner of Lees Landscaping & Excavation, a business he operated at Westport Point since 2020.
On Thursday, the Westport Fair announced that a scholarship will be established in his memory.
