WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP NEW JERSEY, A former middle school teacher has been arrested following allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a former student.
Authorities identified the woman as Ashley Fisler, 36, who previously taught at Orchard Valley Middle School. She was taken into custody after an investigation into claims that the relationship began in 2021 while the individual was still her student.
According to reports, the alleged victim, now an adult, told investigators about multiple encounters that allegedly occurred in different locations, including a vehicle and a classroom. The claims were reported earlier this year, leading to a formal investigation.
Investigators said that text messages reviewed during the case indicated communication that raised concerns about the nature of the relationship. Authorities also referenced evidence that included images shared between the individuals.
Fisler has been charged with multiple counts, including first-degree sexual assault of a minor, along with charges related to endangering the welfare of a child and official misconduct.
According to court documents, Fisler denied the allegations during questioning by authorities.
If convicted, she could face significant prison time, with the most serious charges carrying the possibility of up to 20 years, along with additional penalties for other charges.
School district officials confirmed that Fisler is no longer employed and stated that she separated from the district in April 2023.
In a statement, district leadership emphasized that student safety is a top priority and confirmed that they are cooperating with law enforcement.
Fisler had worked in the Washington Township school district for several years before leaving the profession. After her departure, she reportedly started a business focused on apparel design.
The case remains under investigation as legal proceedings move forward.
