Mass Casualty Incident Declared After Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-75 in Fort Shawnee

FORT SHAWNEE OHIO, A Mass Casualty Incident was declared Sunday after a multi-vehicle crash on northbound Interstate 75 near the 118-mile marker in Allen County.
Emergency crews responded to the scene after reports that traffic had slowed or stopped due to a separate vehicle fire in the area. Authorities said a semi-truck traveling northbound was unable to stop in time and collided with several passenger vehicles.
Preliminary information indicates the semi struck between five and six vehicles, resulting in multiple injuries. Officials reported that several individuals were trapped inside heavily damaged vehicles, and at least one person was ejected during the crash.
Due to the number of injured individuals and the complexity of the response, officials activated a Mass Casualty Incident protocol to coordinate resources.
Fire and EMS units from Shawnee Township, Cridersville and Wapakoneta responded to assist with rescue and medical efforts.
Northbound Interstate 75 near the 118-mile marker remains fully shut down as crews continue extrication operations, provide medical treatment and work to clear the roadway.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the total number of victims or the severity of injuries. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
The crash remains under active investigation.
