Fall River School Committee to Review Termination of Superintendent Curley’s Contract After Blizzard Delay

FALL RIVER MASSACHUSETTS, A development from last month’s Fall River School Committee meeting regarding Superintendent Dr. Tracey Curley’s contract is expected to be addressed this week.
During the February 10 meeting, Vice Chair Kevin Aguiar requested a review of Superintendent Curley’s contract, specifically item number nine, which pertains to termination of employment without cause. Mayor Paul Coogan clarified that the referenced provision involves ending the superintendent’s contract without citing cause.
Mayor Coogan stated that he opposed the move, expressing that he believes Dr. Curley is performing well in her role. He also noted that several committee members voting in favor had been on the board for a relatively short period of time.
Committee members Kevin Aguiar, Colin Dias, Ana Riley, Shanell Stewart, and Emanuel Moniz voted in favor of reviewing the contract. Mayor Coogan and Thomas Khoury voted in opposition.
Khoury commented that the proposal appeared unexpected and said he believes the district has been making progress.
Public reaction on social media has been mixed, with some residents supporting the potential termination and others voicing support for Superintendent Curley. Reports indicate that a group of supporters is organizing in response.
A special meeting to address the matter was scheduled for last week but was canceled due to impassable streets following a blizzard. The issue has since been added to the agenda for the regular School Committee meeting scheduled for Wednesday.
The discussion is expected to take place in executive session, which is not open to the public.
