1 Dead, 3 Injured in Active Shooter Incident at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan

WEST BLOOMFIELD MICHIGAN, A large law enforcement response was underway Thursday afternoon after reports of an active shooter at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan.
Authorities said the incident began shortly after 12:30 p.m. at the synagogue located on Walnut Lake Road near Drake Road. Emergency calls reporting an active shooter situation prompted police agencies from across the metro Detroit area to respond to the scene.
According to preliminary information from responding officials, the suspected gunman is deceased and died at the scene. Early reports indicated the suspect crashed a vehicle into part of the building, and a fire was also reported at the structure during the incident.
A large perimeter was quickly established around the synagogue as officers from multiple agencies, including the West Bloomfield Police Department, worked to secure the area and investigate the situation.
Officials said at least three people were injured during the chaotic moments as individuals fled the building. The injuries were reportedly caused by a stampede as people rushed to escape after gunfire was reported. The extent of those injuries has not yet been confirmed.
Authorities asked members of the public to avoid the area around the synagogue while emergency crews continued their work.
Out of caution, police units were also dispatched to other synagogues and temples in the surrounding area to provide additional security.
Investigators remained at the scene as they worked to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the shooting and the suspect’s death.
Officials said the situation remains under investigation and additional details are expected to be released as the inquiry continues.
