Ohio Accident Claims Life of Officer Kaleb Torbet; Toledo and Wauseon Pay Tribute

OHIO, The law enforcement community and residents across northwest Ohio are mourning the loss of Officer Kaleb Torbet, a field operations officer who was killed in a tragic accident over the weekend. One child was also seriously injured in the incident.
Officer Torbet, also known as Karson Christopher Torbet, was remembered as a devoted husband, loving father of three, and committed public servant who continued a proud family tradition in law enforcement.
Originally from Wauseon, Torbet was the son of former Wauseon Police Chief Keith Torbet. As a child, he often watched his father prepare for duty, carefully putting on his uniform and badge before heading out on shift. Those early experiences left a lasting impact and helped shape his future goals.
Friends say he admired what the uniform represented, including service, integrity, and responsibility. From a young age, he expressed a desire to follow a similar path in public service.
That ambition became reality when he joined the Toledo Police Department, where he served in field operations. Colleagues described him as calm under pressure, compassionate in his interactions, and deeply dedicated to his role within the department.
A graduate of Wauseon High School and Tiffin University, Officer Torbet had aspirations of advancing within the department. He hoped to become a detective and eventually serve in a leadership capacity, continuing the legacy established by his father.
Beyond his career, Torbet was known for his devotion to his family. Friends and loved ones described him as an engaged and supportive father who valued time with his three children. Those closest to him said his greatest source of pride was his family life.
News of his passing has led to an outpouring of condolences and tributes from fellow officers, friends, and community members who remembered his humility, strong work ethic, and caring nature.
As northwest Ohio reflects on his life, many are honoring Officer Kaleb Torbet for fulfilling his lifelong commitment to service and for the legacy of dedication, family, and integrity he leaves behind.
