Murder-Suicide at Brookwood Hospital Leaves New Mother Dead, Husband Also Found Deceased

HOMEWOOD ALABAMA, A woman was killed and her husband died by suicide following a shooting at Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital in Homewood, a suburb of Birmingham, according to police.
Authorities identified the victim as 24-year-old Precious Johnson, who had recently given birth. Police said she was shot multiple times by her husband, 19-year-old Kynath “William” Terry Jr., before he turned the gun on himself in an apparent murder-suicide.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:25 p.m. Sunday inside the hospital. Homewood Police said preliminary findings indicate the shooting was domestic in nature.
Investigators have not confirmed whether the couple’s newborn child was present in the room at the time of the shooting.
Family members told local media that the couple had been experiencing marital problems prior to the incident. Terry’s mother said Johnson did not want members of Terry’s family present at the hospital when the child was born. She also noted that Terry had recently completed training with the Army National Guard.
The tragedy has raised questions about hospital security procedures. Danne Howard, president of the Alabama Hospital Association, said the incident was highly unusual and described it as an isolated event during her decades working in the state’s healthcare system.
Hospital officials declined to comment on security measures at the facility. Howard noted that Alabama does not have statewide mandates requiring specific hospital security protocols.
Homewood Mayor Jennifer Andress said the investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
