Northstar Death Investigation Underway After Skier Dies at California Resort

NORTHSTAR, The Placer County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that a missing 21-year-old skier was found deceased Thursday morning following an overnight search at Northstar California Resort.

According to authorities, deputies received a report around 11 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, regarding a possible missing person. During the initial investigation, deputies located the man’s vehicle in the Northstar parking lot. Preliminary findings indicated that he had gone skiing earlier in the day and had not returned as expected.

A lieutenant with the Placer County Office of Emergency Management coordinated search efforts. The Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue Team was activated early Thursday morning, deploying 15 skiers along with a snowcat and two snowmobilers to search the mountain terrain. Northstar Ski Patrol members also assisted in the operation.

At approximately 9 a.m., search teams located the missing skier deceased. Officials have not released further information about the circumstances surrounding his death.

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office expressed condolences to the young man’s family and friends during this difficult time. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
