KANSAS CITY MISSOURI, Two people were shot and a police officer was injured during a shooting outside a Kansas City church on Friday morning. Authorities confirmed the suspected gunman is dead.
Officers with the Kansas City Missouri Police Department responded to reports of gunfire near New Beginning Apostolic Church, located at 200 N. Bales Avenue.
According to a department spokesperson, preliminary information indicates that two individuals sustained gunshot wounds during the incident. Both victims were transported for medical treatment. Their conditions have not yet been released.
An officer was also injured during the response. Police said it remains unclear how the officer was hurt, and additional details about the nature of the injury have not been provided.
Authorities confirmed the suspect involved in the shooting is deceased. It has not been specified whether the suspect died from a self-inflicted injury or during an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement.
The area surrounding the church was secured while investigators processed the scene. Detectives are working to determine the events leading up to the shooting, including a possible motive.
