UK-Based Nigerian Woman Passes Away on New Year’s Day Following Medical Complications

A UK-based Nigerian woman, Damilola Balogun, has passed away following weeks of medical complications, according to a statement shared on social media by SK the Plug (@DHKRULLAH). Her death occurred on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2026, leaving her family and loved ones in deep mourning.

Damilola was described as a loving wife, a devoted mother, and the main applicant for her family’s skilled worker visa in the United Kingdom. Her passing has brought immense sorrow to those who knew her, especially as she had welcomed a new baby just five months earlier—an occasion that should have marked a joyful chapter for her family.

According to shared accounts, Damilola began experiencing severe migraines weeks after childbirth. She reportedly sought medical attention at Walsall Manor Hospital, where she was treated and discharged. After experiencing similar symptoms days later, she returned to the hospital but was again sent home when no immediate cause was identified.

As her condition persisted, Damilola was later admitted for further evaluation, including additional tests. Medical findings reportedly showed a buildup of fluid in her brain, leading to an urgent referral to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham for surgery. While the procedure initially raised hopes of recovery, her condition sadly declined in the days that followed.

Three days after the surgery, Damilola fell into a coma and was placed on life support. Despite continued medical care and prayers from loved ones, doctors later confirmed that she would not recover. Life support was withdrawn on the morning of January 1, 2026.

While many families welcomed the New Year in celebration, Damilola’s loved ones were faced with devastating loss. She is survived by her husband, three children aged 11, 10, and five months, as well as her mother and grandmother.

Since the onset of her illness, her husband has reportedly been unable to work, remaining by her side through multiple hospital admissions and using the family’s savings during this difficult period. In the wake of her passing, the family has shared that they are seeking support to help with funeral arrangements and the ongoing care of the children.

Damilola Balogun will be remembered for her strength, love for her family, and the life she touched in her short time. Her passing has left a lasting impact on her community, and her memory continues to live on through those who loved her.
