Teenager Killed in Saline County Following Sledding Accident

SALINE COUNTY, authorities have clarified details surrounding a fatal sledding accident that claimed the life of a teenager, correcting the victim’s age from 16 to 17 years old.
In a statement, the Saline County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to the scene on January 24, 2026, where they found the juvenile critically injured.
“Emergency responders provided immediate medical assistance; however, despite lifesaving efforts, the juvenile succumbed to his injuries,” the statement said.
The sheriff’s office confirmed the incident remains under investigation and noted that no additional details are available at this time.
“The Saline County Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones affected by this tragic loss,” officials said. “We ask the community to keep the family in their thoughts and prayers and to respect their privacy during this difficult time.”
Earlier reports had stated the victim was 16 years old, but authorities later corrected the information and confirmed the teenager was 17. Officials said the story has been updated to reflect the accurate age.
According to initial information released by the sheriff’s office, deputies responded Saturday afternoon to the 8000 block of Shimrod Road in Benton following reports of a sledding accident.
Investigators said the juvenile male was riding on a sled that was being pulled by a motor vehicle when the sled struck a tree.
Authorities said limited details are being released due to the nature of the incident and the age of the deceased.
