BILLINGS, A large police response was reported Tuesday night at Billings Senior High School following a stabbing incident involving a teacher and a student, authorities said.

According to Billings Police Chief Rich St. John, the incident occurred on the third floor of the school after an altercation between a teacher and a female student. During the confrontation, both individuals were stabbed.

Chief St. John said the teacher suffered a non-life-threatening stab wound. The student was also injured during the incident. Both were transported to a local hospital for treatment, though their current conditions have not been released.

At approximately 5:20 p.m., about eight Billings police vehicles were positioned outside the school, and several nearby streets were blocked as officers secured the campus and began their investigation.

As a precaution, the school was placed on a temporary lockdown. Students were directed to remain inside the gymnasium while police handled the situation. At the time, a concert and a wrestling match were taking place in the gym, resulting in a large number of people on campus.

Police remained at the scene Tuesday evening as the investigation continued. Authorities have not released additional details about what led to the altercation.
