Police West Georgia College Student Killed in Ex-Boyfriend Shooting

LYRIC FARLEY, a 19-year-old University of West Georgia student was shot and killed Saturday afternoon in Douglasville, with her former boyfriend now charged in connection with her death.
Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said they responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired around 1:15 p.m. Officers arrived at a parking lot behind a Dollar General on Central Church Road and found Lyric Latrice Farley of Carrollton dead inside her vehicle.
Investigators said Farley had met with her former boyfriend, David Marc’Antony Powell, 20, of Douglasville, following a disagreement. According to Sheriff’s Office Lt. Col. Tavarreus Pounds, Powell allegedly shot Farley multiple times during the encounter.
After the shooting, Powell fled the scene. Authorities later located him around 1:30 a.m. Sunday during a traffic stop on Interstate 20 near Highway 5. He was taken into custody without incident, according to reporting from 11Alive.
Officials said multiple vehicles were impounded and several firearms were seized as part of the investigation.
Family members spoke publicly following the shooting. In an interview with 11Alive, Farley’s sister described her as very smart and big-hearted. She also urged others to be cautious about who they become involved with.
Powell has been charged with murder and aggravated assault. He made his first court appearance Monday afternoon, where a judge ordered that he be held without bond.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with information related to the case is encouraged to contact Douglas County investigators.
