One Person Killed as Police Investigate Shooting in Savannah, GA

SAVANNAH GEORGIA, A large law enforcement response shut down sections of Savannah’s Riverfront on Thursday after an officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of an armed man near the JW Marriott.
According to police, officers were attempting to speak with an emotionally distressed individual in the area of the JW Marriott when the situation escalated. The incident occurred near Indian Street and East River Street, leading to an immediate lockdown of the surrounding Riverfront area. Several nearby streets were closed, and police boats were seen patrolling the Savannah River as part of the response. East River Street and adjacent access points remained blocked while investigators processed the scene.
Officials have not released the identity of the deceased, and no formal media briefing had been held as of Thursday evening. The officer-involved shooting remains under investigation and is expected to be reviewed by an independent agency in line with standard procedures.
