New Year’s Eve Gathering in Weir Turns Tragic, 19-Year-Old Caden Yarbrough Loses Life

WEIR, Miss. — Authorities are investigating an overnight incident in Choctaw County that resulted in the death of a 19-year-old during a New Year’s Eve gathering.
Choctaw County Coroner Chris Coleman confirmed the death early Thursday morning. Later, Weir Police Chief Dillion Cates identified the deceased as Caden Yarbrough, 19.
According to Chief Cates, the incident occurred shortly before midnight during an outdoor New Year’s Eve gathering on Thomas Circle Street in the town of Weir.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the location, where Yarbrough was found with critical injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts.
Chief Cates confirmed that one individual has been taken into custody in connection with the incident.
The identity of the person in custody has not been released, as formal charges are still pending and the investigation remains active.
Authorities stated that the events leading up to the incident are still being examined.
