Miami International Airport South Terminal Investigated After Suspicious Item Found

MIAMI FLORIDA, hundreds of passengers were evacuated from Miami International Airport on Sunday after a suspicious item was reported inside one of the airport’s terminals, prompting a large security response and temporary closures, according to officials and local media.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the incident took place in the airport’s South Terminal. As a precaution, authorities closed Transportation Security Administration screening checkpoints serving Concourses G, H, and J, along with the nearby curbside roadway, while law enforcement assessed the situation.
Witnesses inside the terminal described a sudden moment of alarm as the response unfolded.
Eugene Katchalov, who was preparing to go through security, said he heard a loud “pop,” after which passengers began moving quickly toward terminal exits.
In a post shared on social media, Katchalov said the evacuation expanded rapidly, with large numbers of people being directed outside. He estimated that thousands of travelers were gathered outside the terminal area during the response.
Another eyewitness, Patrick Emad, said passengers were instructed by authorities to move as far away from the building as possible as a safety measure.
Video footage circulating online showed large crowds assembled outside the terminal while law enforcement maintained a visible presence at the scene.
Airport operations in the affected areas were temporarily disrupted as the investigation continued.
Officials have not released details about the nature of the suspicious item, and no injuries were immediately reported.
Authorities said the situation remains under review and that additional information will be shared as it becomes available.
