Madison Parish Jail Incident Leaves Two Inmates Dead, Two Hospitalized

MADISON PARISH, La. — Authorities are investigating the deaths of two inmates at the Madison Parish Detention Center after four individuals were found unconscious Tuesday evening, according to the Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Investigator Brandon Wilcher said deputies discovered the four inmates unresponsive at about 7 p.m. Emergency measures were immediately taken, including the administration of first aid and Narcan. Two of the inmates were revived and are currently receiving medical care, officials said.
Despite lifesaving efforts, two inmates were pronounced dead. Their identities have not been released as authorities work to notify next of kin.
Investigators believe the inmates may have smoked an unknown substance that was brought into the detention facility, though officials emphasized this information has not yet been confirmed. Authorities are still working to determine what substance may have been involved and how it entered the jail.
The Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office said the incident remains an active and ongoing investigation, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
Officials have not said whether criminal charges are expected and stated that efforts are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths and to ensure the safety of inmates and staff at the facility.
