Officials confirmed that one person was injured in the shooting and transported for medical care. During the response, an officer was also involved in a crash with their patrol cruiser, though no serious injuries to law enforcement have been reported.

As a precaution, Lakeside High School, Lakeside Middle School, and Blue Ridge Elementary School were placed on lockdown. School officials later reassured parents that all students and staff are safe, emphasizing that the shooting did not occur on school property and there is no immediate threat to the campuses.

In a statement, the sheriff’s office said deputies are searching for approximately three Black male suspects believed to be involved in the incident. At least one suspect was described as wearing a gray hoodie, and another was seen wearing a pink hoodie. Authorities urged residents to avoid the area while the search continues.

Reports from the scene indicated a heavy law enforcement presence, including local police, sheriff’s deputies, and additional agencies assisting with securing the area. Some parents reported seeing multiple emergency vehicles near the schools as lockdown procedures were implemented.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office asked anyone with information related to the shooting to contact dispatch at 706-541-2800 or call 911, referencing Case #26-001288.
