Kayla Castro of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Remembered as Devoted Mother and CNA; GoFundMe Launched

PITTSBURGH, Family, friends, and members of the Pittsburgh community are mourning the sudden and heartbreaking loss of Kayla Castro, a devoted mother of two and a certified nurse assistant, who died Saturday after suffering a medical emergency. She passed away on January 10, 2026.
Kayla Castro was known for her tireless dedication to her family. A loving mother to her children, Mila and Brantley, she worked two jobs to support them and to ensure they had access to strong educational opportunities. Those closest to her described Kayla as selfless, determined, and deeply committed to building a stable and hopeful future for her children.
In addition to being a devoted mother, Kayla was a sister, daughter, and friend whose compassion extended beyond her home and into her work in healthcare. She had recently begun a new career as a certified nurse assistant, pursuing her passion for helping others. Because she was early in her career, she had not yet become eligible for employment benefits. Due to the sudden nature of her passing, she did not have life insurance or a financial plan in place.
Kayla worked tirelessly to keep her children enrolled in private school and often spoke of her long-term goal of seeing Mila and Brantley attend Serra Catholic High School. With her unexpected death, the responsibility of carrying forward that dream now rests with the community that loved and supported her.
In response, family members, friends, and community supporters have organized a GoFundMe campaign to help cover funeral and memorial expenses and to establish a fund dedicated to supporting Mila and Brantley’s long-term needs and education. Organizers say the effort reflects Kayla’s own spirit of sacrifice, love, and commitment to her children.
Kayla Castro’s passing has left a profound void in the lives of those who knew her. As the community grieves, many are coming together to honor her memory by helping ensure that her children are supported and cared for in the years ahead.
