Houston METRO Bus Incident Leaves 25-Year-Old Woman Dead; Two Suspects in Custody

CAITLIN STUP, a 25-year-old woman, lost her life Wednesday afternoon following a shooting on a METRO bus in west Houston, an incident that authorities and family members confirmed occurred as she was traveling to work. Police stated that Stup was an uninvolved bystander with no connection to the individuals responsible. A 16-year-old boy was also injured during the incident and received medical treatment.

The shooting occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. near Richmond Avenue and Walnut Bend Lane on METRO bus Route 161. Investigators reported that two male suspects discharged firearms while on board the bus, apparently directing gunfire toward one another. During the incident, Stup was struck and later transported to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

According to police and METRO officials, the bus driver immediately stopped the vehicle after the shots were fired and safely evacuated all passengers. Surveillance footage from the bus, along with witness accounts, has been central to the ongoing investigation into what led to the violence.

Family members identified the victim as Caitlin Stup and shared that she was on her way to work at a restaurant when the incident occurred. Loved ones emphasized that she had no involvement in the dispute that preceded the gunfire. Friends and relatives described her as someone with strong community ties and a promising future, noting that her death has deeply affected those who knew her.

Houston police later confirmed that two suspects have been arrested in connection with the shooting. Authorities stated that one suspect faces a murder charge related to Stup’s death, while the second suspect has been charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon. Additional charges may be considered as the investigation continues.

The Houston Police Department is continuing to review surveillance video, witness statements, and forensic evidence as part of an active homicide investigation. Officials are asking anyone with additional information to come forward as they work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
