Siena Lacrosse Coach Liam Gleason Hospitalized After Serious Fall at Halfmoon Home

Siena Community Prays for men’s lacrosse coach Liam Gleason, who remains in critical condition after suffering a serious head injury in a fall at his home in Halfmoon on Sunday afternoon. Emergency responders were called around 4 p.m., and he was transported to a local hospital, according to police dispatch records.

In a statement released Monday, Siena College asked the campus community to keep Gleason and his family in their thoughts, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation.

Gleason, 41, is a University at Albany graduate and has led the Siena Saints for seven seasons. During his tenure, he helped reshape the program’s direction, including guiding Siena to the 2023 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship, the team’s first title in nearly ten years.

Coaches and colleagues across Siena athletics shared concern and support. Siena women’s basketball coach Terry Primm described Gleason as a respected leader and said the broader community remains hopeful. Others have noted Gleason’s reputation for mentorship and prioritizing player experience, a coaching approach he has often credited to his longtime mentor, Scott Marr, head coach of the University at Albany men’s lacrosse program.

Gleason’s career spans multiple levels of collegiate athletics. A Long Island native, he began at Adelphi before transferring to UAlbany, where he played a role in the program’s 2007 NCAA quarterfinal run. He later returned to UAlbany as an assistant coach, contributing to several NCAA Tournament appearances, including the program’s semifinal run in 2018.

He is married to Jaclyn, a former UAlbany soccer player, and they have three children.

As of Monday, no additional medical updates had been released publicly. State Police continue to review the circumstances of the incident, and officials have indicated that no foul play is suspected.

Supporters, students, alumni, and members of the lacrosse community have shared messages of encouragement online, many highlighting Gleason’s positivity and the impact he has had on his players. For now, the Siena community remains united in concern and hope as he continues to receive care.
