Columbus, Ohio: Anthony Farmer Identified in North Linden Hit-and-Run Crash

COLUMBUS, OHIO — Columbus police have identified the victim killed in a hit-and-run crash in the North Linden area, and authorities confirmed that one person is now in custody.
According to a spokesperson for the Columbus Division of Police, the victim has been identified as Anthony Farmer. Police said Farmer was crossing Cleveland Avenue from Eddystone Avenue on January 5 at approximately 10:15 p.m. when he was struck by a southbound vehicle that fled the scene.
Emergency responders arrived shortly afterward and pronounced Farmer dead at the scene. Investigators asked anyone who may have witnessed the hit-and-run or has information related to the incident to come forward to assist with the investigation.
Authorities later confirmed that the at-fault driver turned himself in at his attorney’s office and has since been interviewed by the Accident Investigation Unit. The driver’s name has not been released, and officials said potential charges are pending as the investigation continues.
The intersection along Cleveland Avenue has long been a concern for residents in the North Linden neighborhood. City officials noted that Cleveland Avenue has one of the highest rates of pedestrian-involved crashes in Columbus. As part of the city’s Walk Safe on Cleveland Avenue initiative, plans are underway to add 14 enhanced crosswalks along the corridor.
However, officials acknowledged that there is currently no crosswalk at the intersection of Cleveland and Eddystone avenues, where the fatal collision occurred.
Members of the community are mourning the loss of Anthony Farmer and have asked residents to keep his family and friends in their thoughts during this difficult time.
