Two Killed, Three Injured in Muskegon Mass Shooting; Suspect Identity Not Yet Confirmed

Authorities continue to investigate the Muskegon mass shooting that left two people dead and three others injured, including a young child, as police caution the public against relying on unverified information circulating online.

A widely shared online image appears to show a Michigan Department of Corrections OTIS record for 25-year-old Dewaun Deshawn Robinson, who has a history of home invasion convictions. However, investigators have stated they have not confirmed the identity of any suspect in connection with the Jackson Hill shooting.

Sources with knowledge of the case suggest that a man hospitalized with gunshot wounds following the incident may be connected to the circulating record, though no charges have been filed. Officials emphasize that this information remains unconfirmed as the investigation unfolds.

Police continue searching for the gunman responsible for Saturday afternoon’s shooting inside a Muskegon residence that resulted in multiple casualties.

The Muskegon Police Department identified the two deceased victims as:

  • Joshua Fondren Jr., 25

  • Cori Marie May Watts, 22

Officers responded around 3:15 p.m. to reports of gunfire near Jackson Avenue and McLaren Street, where they discovered multiple people suffering from gunshot wounds. Fondren died at the scene. May, along with two 25-year-old men, was transported to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries. The two men remain in critical condition.

A 4-year-old child was also shot but sustained minor injuries and is expected to be released from the hospital.

Police say the shooter fled the residence before officers arrived. Investigators do not believe the incident was random and say there is no ongoing threat to the public.

In the wake of multiple violent incidents—including the earlier apparent homicide of Thomas “Tommy” Stewart—Muskegon Mayor Ken Johnson issued a statement expressing grief and urging community support.

“Our community has been shaken by tragedies this week,” Johnson said, offering condolences and calling for residents to assist law enforcement. “May our community come together in care for one another, as we navigate these traumatic events, and in pursuit of justice.”
