Teacher at Cottage Hill Christian Academy Arrested After Video Prompts Investigation

A former educator at Cottage Hill Christian Academy has been arrested and dismissed from her position after a video circulating on social media led to a child-abuse investigation.
According to officials, the individual identified as Nicole Staples has been charged with willful abuse of a child under 18. The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office reported that she was taken into custody after the video drew significant public attention. Staples is currently being held on a $7,500 bond and is expected to appear in court for a bond hearing on Friday.
Investigators stated that the video appeared to show an off-campus incident involving a young boy. Authorities said the footage suggested the child was subjected to repeated physical discipline and verbal aggression. The sheriff’s office confirmed that the child involved has since been placed in a safe environment.
School leaders at Cottage Hill Christian Academy issued a statement acknowledging the situation and noting that they were made aware of concerns regarding Staples on November 19, 2025. While the incident did not occur on school property and did not involve one of the school’s students, administrators placed her on administrative leave once the allegations surfaced and later terminated her employment after further review.
Head of School Chris Brazell emphasized the academy’s commitment to maintaining student safety and transparency, stating that the wellbeing of children remains the institution’s highest priority.
The academy also confirmed it is cooperating fully with Mobile Police, the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, the Department of Human Resources, and the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office.
Authorities report that the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges have not been ruled out. Further legal proceedings are pending.
