Suspended North Andover Officer Shot by Fellow Officer Released From Custody

Authorities confirmed that a suspended North Andover police officer who was shot by a fellow officer was released from custody Tuesday night, according to court officials.
A judge ordered the release of Kelsey Fitzsimmons after she was taken back into custody earlier this year following complications related to court-ordered conditions.
Fitzsimmons was initially taken into custody over the summer after North Andover police officers went to her home to serve her with a restraining order. During that encounter, police said Fitzsimmons pulled a firearm on officers, while her defense team has maintained that she pointed the weapon at herself.
Officers discharged their weapons during the incident, striking Fitzsimmons.
She was first released from custody in September under the condition that she undergo alcohol monitoring. Authorities later stated that injuries Fitzsimmons sustained to her lungs and ribs during the shooting made it difficult for her to comply with the testing requirements, leading to her return to custody.
Officials said Fitzsimmons has since recovered from her injuries and was able to complete the required testing.
As part of her release, she has now been placed on GPS monitoring.
Following the judge’s decision, Fitzsimmons expressed gratitude to her legal team and supporters, saying she remains confident in the legal process as her case continues.
