Phillip Island Update: A 60-year-old surfer has died following a drowning incident at Surfies Point on Phillip Island, with emergency services responding to reports of a person in distress in the water.

The incident was reported around 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3, near Surf Beach around the area of The Esplanade and Batman Street. Police said the man was surfing and was later found unresponsive in the water.

Witnesses and other beachgoers brought the man to shore and began CPR before paramedics and other emergency crews arrived. Despite extended resuscitation efforts, he could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said the man had not yet been formally identified. Police also indicated the death is not being treated as suspicious, and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

Local officials expressed condolences to the man’s family and acknowledged the efforts of bystanders and first responders who assisted during the emergency.
