Odessa Triple Homicide: Authorities Identify Victims as Investigation Continues
ODESSA, Texas — Authorities are continuing to investigate a triple homicide reported Tuesday evening in Odessa, as additional details emerge about what happened.
The victims have been identified as 39-year-old Jessica Rodriguez, her 9-year-old son Jacob, and her 13-year-old daughter Kylie. Their father, Roy Martinez, has since launched a fundraiser in their memory.
According to the Odessa Police Department (OPD), officers were dispatched at approximately 5:45 p.m. on December 9 to the 87th Street Apartments at 8740 Hunter Miller Way after receiving reports of a shooting. Police said that once officers entered the residence, they found three people who had died from apparent gunshot wounds.
Investigators said a 15-year-old suspect fled the scene but was arrested a short time later. Because the suspect is a juvenile, authorities have not publicly released his identity. Police confirmed he is being held at the Ector County Youth Center.
OPD stated that the teen is facing one count of Capital Murder of Multiple Persons, which is classified as a capital felony. In an update released Wednesday, police said the suspect had initially planned to shoot his 15-year-old ex-girlfriend outside her school but allegedly changed plans and went to her home instead. Investigators allege that once inside, the suspect shot Jessica Rodriguez and then shot Jacob and Kylie.
A GoFundMe page created by Roy Martinez describes the family’s grief and requests support as they navigate funeral and related expenses. Martinez wrote that the tragedy was unexpected and that he is asking for help during an extremely difficult time.
The investigation remains active, and detectives say they are working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities have not released additional details about what led up to the shooting and have said further information will be shared as it is confirmed.
