Leominster Standoff Suspect Makes First Court Appearance Following Arrest

The man appeared in court Monday following an hours-long standoff involving police and a SWAT team at his Leominster home, according to authorities.

James Marsh, 64, is facing a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing bodily injury. The incident that led to his arrest unfolded Friday afternoon at a residence on Union Street in Leominster.

Prosecutors said police were initially called to the home after receiving reports of a domestic situation. When officers entered the residence, they reported finding Marsh seated on a couch with a firearm, while a woman was lying nearby covered with a sheet. Officers exited the home after observing the weapon and requested additional resources.

A standoff lasting approximately three hours followed as police worked to resolve the situation safely. Authorities said Marsh eventually surrendered to law enforcement without further incident.

After securing the home, officers discovered Marsh’s wife deceased inside the residence. Prosecutors stated that she had suffered trauma-related injuries. During a court hearing, Assistant District Attorney Brett Dillon alleged that Marsh shot and killed his wife during an altercation on December 26 and later pointed a firearm at responding police officers.

Marsh was taken into custody and brought before the court on Monday. A judge ordered that he be held without bail as the case proceeds through the legal system.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not released additional details at this time.
