Ken Nunn Obituary: Legal and Philanthropic Leader Remembered After Passing at 85

Ken Nunn, a prominent attorney widely known for his decades-long legal career in Bloomington, Indiana, has passed away at the age of 85. Nunn, whose life story became a powerful example of perseverance and determination, died surrounded by family, according to those close to him.
Born in March 1940, Nunn’s journey from hardship to success became well known across Indiana. Raised in Jeffersonville, he experienced periods of homelessness during his youth and eventually dropped out of high school. His life took a meaningful turn after meeting his future wife, Leah, who encouraged him to return to school and pursue higher education.
Inspired by the character Atticus Finch from “To Kill a Mockingbird,” Nunn developed a passion for the legal profession. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business from Indiana University in 1964, followed by a Juris Doctor degree in 1967. He initially worked in criminal defense before transitioning into personal injury law, a move that brought both professional success and financial stability.
Nunn later founded the Ken Nunn Law Office, which became known for its aggressive representation of accident victims. He often described himself as a champion for the underdog, believing that attorneys serve as a critical line of defense against powerful corporations. Over the years, his firm handled thousands of cases annually and gained a reputation for securing multi-million-dollar settlements and verdicts.
Outside of the courtroom, Nunn was deeply committed to giving back. He was a strong supporter of Indiana University, contributing to athletic programs, academic scholarships, and numerous community initiatives. His philanthropic efforts also included donations to charitable organizations and the provision of trauma packs for law enforcement agencies.
Nunn’s legal achievements earned him recognition within the profession, including membership in the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and designation as an Indiana Super Lawyer.
Following his passing, his grandson, Jimmy Nunn, shared a tribute on Instagram, reflecting on his grandfather’s impact. He described Ken Nunn as a foundational figure in his life who not only shaped his family but also left a lasting impression on the broader community. He noted that Nunn started with very little, uncertain of stability as a child, and built his career through decades of hard work and long hours.
Ken Nunn’s legacy endures through his legal accomplishments, philanthropic contributions, and the many lives he influenced throughout his career and personal life.
