Authorities in Inkster are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Monday morning at an apartment complex, an incident police say began as a domestic dispute.
According to law enforcement officials, officers responded to the Flats Apartments near Colgate Street and John Daly following reports of gunfire during an argument between a man and his girlfriend.
Investigators said the dispute escalated inside the apartment before shots were fired. Police initially reported that the girlfriend was involved in the shooting and taken into custody. However, authorities later clarified that a family member of the girlfriend intervened during the argument and is alleged to have fired the shot that struck the victim.
The exact sequence of events remains under active investigation.
The victim was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead. Two additional individuals were detained at the scene as officers worked to secure the area and collect evidence.
While police have not publicly released the identity of the victim or the suspected shooter, family members at the scene identified the deceased as 23-year-old Deion Williams.
Family also confirmed that an infant was inside the apartment at the time of the incident. Police stated that the child was unharmed and is safe.
Investigators have classified the case as a domestic-related homicide. No details regarding potential charges or court proceedings have been released. Detectives continue interviewing witnesses and reviewing evidence as the investigation moves forward.
