Diarmuid Manning Remembered After Fatal Farm Accident Near Bandon, Cork

Authorities have identified Diarmuid Manning, a well-known farmer from the Bandon area, as the man who died following a farm accident in West Cork on Thursday afternoon. The incident happened shortly after 4:00 p.m. on a farm near Bandon, where a wall collapsed, causing one fatality and leaving another man seriously injured.
Gardaí and emergency services responded to the scene, and Manning—described as a man in his 50s—was pronounced dead at the location. A second man, who was also working at the farm at the time, suffered significant injuries and was taken to Cork University Hospital for urgent treatment.
The area has been sealed off while Gardaí carry out a full examination of the site. The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has been notified and is expected to conduct an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collapse.
A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí and emergency services responded to a fatal workplace accident at a premises near Bandon, Co. Cork, shortly after 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, 11th December 2025. A male in his 50s was pronounced deceased at the scene. Another male has been brought to Cork University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The Health and Safety Authority has been notified and are due to attend the scene, which remains preserved.”
Manning was known in the local agricultural community, and news of his death has brought shock and sadness across the wider West Cork region. Further updates are expected as Gardaí and the HSA continue their inquiries.
