Business Owner Clarifies Deadly San Jose Shooting Did Not Occur at Her Store

The business owner of a San Jose store located in a building where a deadly shooting occurred early Friday morning says she is devastated by the incident and wants to clarify that it did not take place inside her business.

Police said the shooting happened around 3:45 a.m. Friday, leaving one person dead and three others injured. Officers responded to reports of gunfire at a building on South First Street.

Witnesses told authorities they heard shots fired and believe the gunfire originated from an after-hours gathering inside the building. Lolita’s Furniture occupies the first floor of the location, but the store’s owner emphasized that her business was not involved in the incident.

The owner explained that another business operates on the upper floor of the building. While both businesses share the same exterior entrance, she said they are completely separate. According to her, the upstairs tenants had been working to open a space intended for events.

“I want to clarify Lolita’s Furniture had nothing to do with this problem. I am still in shock. I’m really, really scared, and now I’m scared where I am,” said Celina Martinez, the store’s owner.

Police stated that when officers arrived, they found three adult men suffering from gunshot wounds. A woman later arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot injury. One of the men was pronounced dead, while the remaining three victims are expected to survive.

The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing as authorities continue to review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
