BALTIMORE MARYLAND, Authorities in Baltimore responded to a critical incident Sunday in the 6200 block of Park Heights Avenue, where a police officer was shot while officers were reportedly handling a possible hostage situation.

According to initial emergency radio reports, a “Signal 13” officer-down alert was transmitted by the Baltimore Police Department, prompting an immediate and large-scale response from law enforcement units across the city.

Officials said officers were already on scene dealing with a potential hostage scenario when gunfire erupted.

During the exchange, one officer was struck by gunfire.

The wounded officer sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and was quickly transported by fellow officers to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center for treatment. The officer’s condition has not yet been publicly released.

Authorities reported that the male suspect continued firing at officers during the incident.

Tactical units were immediately requested, and a SWAT BearCat armored vehicle was dispatched to assist officers on the scene.
