Angela Taylor Dies in North Knoxville Incident Involving Crash and Shooting on Worth Street

KPD Confirms Angela Taylor has died after a Friday evening shooting and crash investigation on Worth Street in North Knoxville, with police saying her death was caused by injuries from the crash rather than gunfire.
The Knoxville Police Department said Angela Taylor was found unresponsive at the scene of a shooting followed by a vehicle crash on Worth Street Friday evening. Taylor was transported for emergency care but later died from her injuries, according to KPD.
Cause of death determined
Police said Taylor was not struck by gunfire. After an examination by the Regional Forensic Center, her cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma sustained in the vehicle crash.
Second victim remains hospitalized
KPD said a second woman who suffered a gunshot wound remains hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Timeline of the incident
The incident began around 4:45 p.m. Friday, when officers were dispatched to reports of a shooting in the area of West Oldham Avenue and Worth Street. Responding officers located a vehicle that had crashed down an embankment. Inside the vehicle were two women: one suffering from a gunshot wound and Taylor, who was unresponsive and believed to have been injured in the crash. Both victims were taken to UT Medical Center.
Investigators said the shooting occurred near the intersection of Worth Street and West Emerald Avenue. Surveillance footage captured a Black Honda Accord leaving the area immediately after the gunfire, according to police.
Suspects identified and charged
KPD said members of the Community Engagement Response Team and detectives with the Violent Crimes Unit worked to identify and locate the suspected vehicle. Police reported the Honda Accord was found at a Kroger store on Clinton Highway, where two suspects were detained.
Police identified the suspects as 20-year-old Jamarcus Murphy and 18-year-old Jamahus Murphy. After interviews with Violent Crimes detectives, both men were charged with attempted first-degree murder. Police said Jamahus Murphy was also charged with employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.
Additional charges expected
KPD said additional charges are expected in connection with Taylor’s death as the investigation continues. The case remains active, and police indicated further developments may be announced as investigators finalize findings related to the crash and the sequence of events.
