Traffic Delays Reported on Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge Following Bus-Related Disruption

Drivers encountered significant delays Friday afternoon after a Hudson Link bus experienced an incident on the southbound side of the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge. The situation began around 1:49 p.m. near Exit 10 on I-87, according to information from 511NY.

Smoke was seen coming from the bus as traffic slowed in the area. Local fire departments arrived quickly and temporarily closed the right and center lanes to allow emergency crews to manage the situation. Officials later confirmed that all passengers and the driver safely exited the vehicle, and no injuries were reported.

Traffic congestion built up across the bridge’s eastbound span as responders worked to secure the scene and ensure the roadway was safe for travel. Drivers were advised to expect delays through the early afternoon while cleanup efforts continued.

The Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge—formerly known as the Tappan Zee Bridge—is a vital route connecting Rockland and Westchester counties. Friday’s incident resulted in widespread slowdowns across the region’s transportation network.

Authorities have not yet released information on what caused the issue, and all lanes are expected to reopen once the area is cleared and the bus is removed.
