One Soldier Killed, Three Injured After Military Humvee Crash on I-65 in Boone County

Boone County, Indiana — A serious multi-vehicle collision involving a military Humvee left one Indiana National Guardsman dead and three others injured on November 14, 2025, shaking the community and prompting an extensive investigation. The crash occurred shortly after 12:15 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Interstate 65 near mile marker 129.

According to officials, the accident involved a military-grade Humvee, a white SUV, and a car-hauler truck. Emergency teams from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office and the Whitestown Police Department arrived to find several damaged vehicles blocking the roadway. Among them were four injured National Guard soldiers.

One soldier was found unconscious and, despite immediate medical efforts, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Indiana National Guard has stated that the identities of those involved will not be released until family notifications are complete.

The three surviving soldiers sustained serious injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The civilian drivers involved in the crash were evaluated on scene and received necessary initial care.

The Boone County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team has taken charge of the investigation, although officials say the cause of the crash has not yet been determined. Investigators are reviewing vehicle damage, roadway conditions, and witness statements to piece together a full understanding of what happened.

In an official statement, the Indiana National Guard expressed deep sorrow over the loss:

“Four Indiana National Guardsmen were involved in a Humvee accident on I-65 in Boone County. Three soldiers were injured, and one died in the accident. The loss of any of our Guardsmen is tragic, and we offer deepest and heartfelt condolences to the soldiers’ families, loved ones, and friends.”

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office also extended condolences and confirmed ongoing coordination with National Guard leadership as the investigation continues.
